Getting started

Do I need to set up anything in Brazil?

No. You get verified from wherever you are, and your payouts go to your company’s bank account.

What do I need to start?

Your company documents, details about the owners, and the bank account that will receive your payouts. Per-payment limits are set for each business.

Do you have an API?

Yes. Your developers can create charges and track payments through our API. If you don’t have developers, you can send payment links by WhatsApp or email instead.

Who handles the payments?

joia is the software you use to create charges and track payments. Payment, currency conversion, and payout services are provided by third parties.

Getting paid

What currency do I receive, and when?

Your payout currency is set in your contract. A Pix payment is usually confirmed within minutes, and your payout starts automatically once it clears review. Timing then depends on the banks involved. Your contract spells it out.

How does pricing work?

Pricing is custom. We send you a proposal showing what it costs and what you’d receive. Your payouts then follow your contract.

What happens if there’s a dispute, a refund, or a Pix reversal?

Disputes and refunds can happen with any payment method, including Pix. Pix payments can also be reversed. Your contract explains how each one is handled and who covers the cost.

What about taxes?

Tax treatment depends on your business and where it operates. We provide a record of every payment. Ask your accountant about your own reporting.

Your customer

How does my customer know this isn’t a scam?

Every payment page shows your company’s name, the amount in reais, and the name of the payment provider your customer will see in their banking app. They can also read our guide to paying safely, in Portuguese.

How do installments work?

Your customer splits the price into up to 12 installments on their Brazilian card, subject to their card issuer’s approval. On each charge, you choose whether the customer pays the interest or you cover the cost. Payment terms are in your contract.

Who is the seller?

Your company’s name is on every payment page. Each party’s formal role is set out in your contract before your first charge.
